THERAPEUTIC SERVICES
I provide therapy services for individuals, couples and families, and clinical supervision and team consulting
Having worked in the health and social care services from 1996 I went on to study at Middlesex University and in 2002 I qualified as a Social Worker in the children and families service. Recognising the complexities involved when working with individuals and families, I started training in Systemic Family Therapy, qualifying as a Psychotherapist in 2013. I then worked within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) for several years supporting young people and their families involved with the youth justice system and children’s social care. In addition to working with anxiety, depression and trauma related symptoms, I supported adolescents and parents to make positive life choices; develop their skills in emotional regulation and communication; explore the impact of living with struggling or absent parents; and lessening the impact of wider prejudice and discrimination.
I was the Family Therapist and part of the senior management team in an adolescent inpatient hospital. I supported families to manage caring for young people with risky, severe, and enduring mental health difficulties and also facilitated group and individual supervision sessions for the staff team. During my time in this role, I witnessed how significant the AMHP role is in ensuring people’s voices are heard and their rights upheld. In 2021, I undertook training to become an AMHP to develop my knowledge of mental health diagnosis and treatment interventions, and I am currently working part time in this role. In 2020, I trained to become a Systemic Supervisor and started to provide clinical and team supervisions. In additional to my AMHP practice, I have a private practice offering therapy services and professional development. Since 2016, I have worked as a volunteer with survivors of child sexual abuse, rape and sexual violence, and I am always humbled by people’s determination to thrive and improve their lives.
My therapeutic approach is influenced by my professional and personal journeys. Through growing up in a diverse area of East London, I have experienced and observed community struggles and problems which have influenced my outlook on life, and nurtured an interest in trauma, attachment, and resilience. I see my role as a facilitator and therapist to help explore options and support a journey of self-discovery and growth. I believe a life is a dynamic collection of experiences and emotions, and my role will involve helping to make sense of these, encouraging reflection on why you do the things you do and why you are the way you are.
